REBECCA A. BROWNELL

Rebecca Brownell received her Bachelors of Art degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida in 1983. She was conferred a Masters of Science degree in Counseling Psychology, with honors, from Nova Southeastern University in 1988. Thereafter she embarked on a successful career as a nationally certified Rehabilitation Consultant, Certified Case Manager and Certified Vocational Evaluator serving as an expert in Florida courts in the area of vocational rehabilitation and life care planning.

In 1999, Rebecca earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Nova Southeastern Shepard Broad School of Law, graduating magna cum laude, in 2001. While in law school, Rebecca served as the Executive Editor of the Nova Law Review. She was also a member of Moot Court. While at Nova Southeastern Shepard Broad School of Law she received recognition for earning the highest grades in corporations, lawyer skills and values, and advanced legal research. Rebecca maintains a national license as a Certified Rehabilitation Consultant.

In 2001 Rebecca joined the Miami office of Rumberger, Kirk & Caldwell, P.A. serving as an Associate Attorney from 2001 to 2004. She was associated with the insurance defense practice group.

In July 2004, Rebecca left the Rumberger firm with John B. Atkinson to form Atkinson & Brownell, P.A. As a member with the firm, her practice areas include: Insurance Defense, Bad Faith Litigation, Trucking Litigation, Medical Malpractice, Professional Malpractice, Product Liability, Premise Liability and Catastrophic/Wrongful Death Litigation. In addition to her trial practice, Rebecca handles appellate matters. She has handled appeals at the state level as well as appeals to the Florida Supreme Court.

Admitted to practice in Florida, she is a member of the American Bar Association, Florida Bar, Dade County Bar Association and Defense Research Institute. Rebecca is admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Rebecca is a speaker on topics related to potential liability of workers compensation carriers, adjusters and case managers.
