Bill Burd received his B.S. in Engineering from the United States Naval Academy in 1965. While at the United States Naval Academy, Bill was a member of the Superintendant’s List and participated in varsity football and track. Upon graduation, Bill was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy and designated as a Naval Aviator. Between 1967 and 1970 Bill made two combat cruises to Vietnam as an attack fighter pilot flying over 200 missions. In 1970, Bill resigned his commission from active duty and commenced a career as an airline pilot and FAA Designated Check Airman for a major U.S. airline. During this time frame Bill attended the University of Miami School of Engineering, majoring in Architectural Engineering, the United States Naval Post-graduate School in Monterey, California for Aviation Accident Investigator School and the University of Miami School of Law obtaining is J.D. in 1980. From 1980 through 1988, Bill flew full-time for the airlines and practiced law at Mershor Sawyer, et al. and Stearns Weaver, et al. In 1990, Bill left Stearns Weaver to form Kenney, Burd & Markowitz which merged with Tew Cardenas in 2001. In March 2008, Bill left Tew Cardenas to join Atkinson & Brownell, P.A. as Of Counsel. Throughout the years, 1980 through present, Bill’s practice has emphasized aviation litigation, construction and products liability. Bill is admitted to practice in Florida, Colorado and New York. He is a member of the American Bar Association, The Florida Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association, New York Bar Association and is a Board Certified Aviation Lawyer.
